According to the 2010 Religion census, the US is divided into thirteen ‘religious regions’. Overall, Catholics account 19.1 per cent of the population, with the various Protestant bodies accounting for 29.7 per cent of the population. The total tally of Christian worshippers in the US, according to the 2010 Census, is 150,686,156. Within the religious regions there are distinct patterns. Southern Baptists are least prevalent in the Midwest, while most prevalent in the South. Independent churches are dispersed throughout the US, except for the Mormon region, which centres on Utah. Mainline Protestants are mostly concentrated in the North, with the Upper Middle Western region dominated by Evangelical Lutheranism and Methodism dominating in the Midland (Midwest). Catholics are prevalent in the Spanish Catholic region, French Catholic Louisiana and the Northeast (including Pennsylvania, New York and New England). Pennsylvania German includes the Amish and Mennonites. Florida’s largest Christian group are Catholics, followed by Baptists.
